The Bright Side of COVID-19 — Lessons We’re Learning
There’s no doubt that the COVID-19 pandemic will go down in history as a time of great upheaval and fear shared by all of humankind. However, you can be in control of how you yourself see it. The fact is, it’s a truly unique time that, despite the inconveniences and uncertainty, have also provided opportunities for people to make changes in their lives, usually for the good. At the same time, it’s also teaching each one of us a thing or two about ourselves and our capabilities, which, if you take advantage of it, will help you look back at this time with a bit more fondness. So, let’s take a peek at what you may be learning at this time.
DIY and it feels so good.
One of the most difficult things about the lockdown, especially when you’ve been stuck in isolation, is not being able to turn to the many services that have, thus far, made your life easier. In fact, many of these are things you’ve likely taken for granted over the years, up until the moment they became inaccessible — practically overnight.
No doubt, a prime example of this are barbers and salons. As the lockdown progressed, countless people were faced with the dilemma of hair growing and going haywire. But it’s the beauty of being human to be able to roll with the punches and adapt accordingly. This then led many to online tutorials on cutting hair and just simply doing it themselves. The results may have been mixed, but the point is, people were able to get things done on their own initiative.
Of course, this newfound predilection to DIY has not only been apparent in haircuts but in just about everything — from cooking healthy meals to home improvements to DIY face masks. Best of all, not only has this taken care of people’s needs, but it’s also offered people ways to be productive and maybe even a sense of achievement.
Nothing is impossible.
Now, in the same vein, it also further drives home the point that, in this day and age of accessible technology, there are always workarounds — even for things that are seemingly impossible to get done because of shelter in place orders. This has been most apparent in the ways that some people and industries are continuing to work and do business at home.
Of course, there are many things that simply can’t take the back burner, even with COVID-19 raging on, so we’re also learning every day to get creative in our approaches. For instance, perhaps you have an impending move that simply can’t be shelved, which means that buying a home is something that you need to do without delay, even in a pandemic. Thank goodness for technology, indeed, as there are plenty of cutting-edge tools that allow you to see homes virtually through 3D walkthroughs, virtual open houses, and video-chat tours, which are arguably proving to be more convenient than conventional, in-person showings.
Healthy changes, healthy habits.
And finally, putting a premium on one’s physical and mental health is undoubtedly the most valuable lesson we’re learning these days. Not only are healthy practices that consist of clean eating and regular movement great ways to fend off viruses and diseases, but these are also proving to be a balm to the weary, anxious soul living through a pandemic.
Equally as important is the fact that you don’t need to spend a fortune on gym memberships and specialty meals to keep up your healthy habits. There’s more than one way to work out at home and no dearth of resources to help you. Ditto with preparing your own healthy meals.
Indeed, there’s no question that COVID-19 has been a real pain in the you-know-what. But if you look beyond the myriad inconveniences, it’s actually nothing that you can’t handle and even make the most out of. And as lockdowns ease up, you may even be able to take with you valuable lessons and newfound skills to serve you in terrific ways in the new normal.
