Helping our fellow Children of God
I am taking a break from reporting opiate related news pieces in order to raise awareness about an issue that has plagued society for hundreds (if not thousands) of years. People become homeless for many different reasons, one of which is drug addiction. Don’t get me wrong, not all homeless people are addicted to drugs or alcohol. In any case, when people are in need and are unable to help themselves, it is up to the rest of us to lend a hand and show some charity. Take a look at some ways Memphians are helping the homeless. Please spread the word to those who might need help and see if there is something you might can do to help too! It’s OK to get help! #doitforshelby Memphis Union Mission http://www.memphisunionmission.org/ 383 Poplar Ave. Memphis, TN 38103 (901) 526-8403 Calvary Rescue Mission http://www.calvaryrescuemission.org/ CALVARY Rescue Mission 960 South Third Street Memphis. Room in the Inn https://www.roomintheinn-memphis.org/ innkeeper@roomintheinn-memphis.org. Room in the Inn-Memphis is an ecumenical ministry that serves people experiencing homelessness. Now beginning their eighth year, they provide emergency shelter and meals during the coldest months of the year—November through March. They are modeled after the incredibly successful Room in the Inn program that started in Nashville more than 30 years ago. Their goal is to share the love of God through hospitality. Shelter is a basic necessity that more than 2,000 people in Memphis are living without each night. Faith communities have large buildings and volunteers who can provide warmth, hospitality, meals and a good helping of kindness and respect. After a successful start, Room in the Inn-Memphis continues to recruit more local congregations to become partners in this life-changing ministry.
