Is Medical Cannabis the answer?
Medical cannabis is a touchy subject for some people. So many studies have been done to prove its effectiveness with pain management, anxiety and a long list of other ailments. There are still people out there who believe that medical cannabis is as bad as, if not worse than heroin, cocaine, crystal methamphetamine and all of the other drugs that are highly addictive and can destroy lives. It's simply not true. I think now, in this day and age, we have to turn back to Mother Nature in order to heal our loved ones who suffer from the disease of addiction. Big Pharma does not want medical cannabis to take over their opiate patients. I think it's high time we turn away from Big Pharma and use the gifts of the Earth. It is a common myth that marijuana is a gateway drug. In reality, any type of substance that alters your way of thinking and perception of reality can be a gateway to using other drugs depending on a person's personal susceptibility to addiction. Studies have been done that show addiction can be genetic as well as a byproduct of one's environmental circumstances. We have all seen or heard about the film, "Refer Madness." Marijuana does not affect people like that. There are many people that use medical cannabis for pain management, anxiety disorders, muscle diseases, an appetite stimulant for cancer patients and glaucoma patients because the components of the marijuana plant somehow reduce the pressure on the ocular nerve. (In addition to the flower containing many medicinal properties, there are several commercial uses for other parts of the marijuana plant, but that is material for another post.) The links below are articles from NORML (the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws) and there is quite a bit of compelling evidence that shows medical cannabis can and does help individuals overcome their opiate addiction. One of the links below is a letter from Dr. Sanjay Gupta, a neurologist and chief medical correspondent for CNN, about why he has decided that medical cannabis can turn this deadly epidemic around and save people. He says, "For the past 40 years, we have been told that cannabis turns the brain into a fried egg, and now there is scientific evidence that it can do just the opposite, as it did for Campbell. It can heal the brain when nothing else does."
