The silent killer is still at large
September 5, 2018
The silent killer. Fentanyl, is still out there and it is still killing our children.
I attended a couple of overdose awareness events recently and at one, I learned that there were 72,000 overdose deaths in 2017. A graph showed a span of several years’ worth of overdose deaths. It spiked significantly from 2014 to 2015 and has continued to rise. Have we peaked yet? Nobody knows for sure but back in the spring, the CDC was sure it’s going to get worse before it gets better.
So many counties across the nation have implemented task forces and initiatives designed to combat the opioid epidemic. One step forward and two steps back. Drug dealers are being charged with murder if OCU and the DA can prove the dealer sold lethal doses of straight fentanyl or anything mixed with fentanyl.
Yet, I hear from other grieving moms that nothing is being done in their county or city. How is this even possible? We are at a pivotal moment in history. Culturally, politically and generationally. We must take care and do what we can to help stop the madness.
